Plagiarism is something that every student and writer tries to avoid at all costs. The tricky thing to avoid is accidental plagiarism. While there are people that will steal other people’s work on purpose, some of the best writers have plagiarized by accident without even knowing it until it was too late.

The main reason that this happens is because we’re reading so much material and at times when you find something more specific, you end up remembering the wording as if it were your own thought. The bad news is, all plagiarism, even accidental, is wrong.

If a subject has been covered, it’s always best not to cover it unless you are able to come up with a new, fresh angle. Once you’ve written the article, have someone take a look at it. It’s important to have fresh eyes reading it, because those will be the ones that can catch something that you missed or accidentally directly worded from another source.

There is so much information that can be found on the Internet. When doing research narrow it down to something specific. Don’t look for topics that are too broad. Do a search on a specific fact or piece of information that you want your article to focus on. Have multiple sources. Never just rely on one website because you could potentially copy what you find on that site.

Accidental plagiarism happens all the time… even to the best writers. It’s important to do a lot of research and work on the article piece by piece in order to avoid any kind of plagiarism. Remember, even accidental plagiarism is a crime in the journalism world.

When looking for legal help online for your business use, there are a couple of questions you can ask yourself to guide you to the perfect attorney for your needs. There are also some methods you can use to narrow down your search once you’ve started to identify some possible candidates.

1. Why do you need a lawyer? Lawyers typically have different specializations, even if they’re focused on business needs. For instance, a California trademark dispute resolution attorney has considerably more experience in that one aspect of business law than a merger acquisition attorney based in New York. If you are just looking for general business law advice, there are lawyers who can handle a variety of simple business laws but may refer you to another firm for expert advice when a specific situation arises.

2. What’s your budget? Some businesses can afford to have a lawyer on retainer – that means that the lawyer receives a fee whether they are working on a project for your business or not. This may cost more money in the long run if you don’t need constant legal assistance but can also makes sure that you deal with the same firm for all of your legal dealings.

Once you’ve figured out the type of lawyer that you need and how much money you can budget for legal help, it’s time to actually start looking for a lawyer online. Start with search engines but make sure you go a level deeper. Take a look at each candidate’s website and find out what information they’ve provided to the public. See if you can find any reviews from businesses that have dealt with each attorney.

Think you won’t get into trouble for plagiarizing an assignment in school or in the work force? Think again.

People are slamming down against those caught plagiarizing… even if it was by accident. Stealing someone else’s words is a crime in the journalism world and many employers and teachers are no longer turning a blind eye. There are many legal effects when someone is caught red-handed plagiarizing.

Plagiarism basically means you’re taking someone else’s thoughts, information and opinions and claiming them as your own. You’re pretty much stealing someone else’s words. Stealing is a crime… even if it is just words. Whether it’s done on purpose or unintentionally there will always be effects to stealing another person’s words. In the work force, this will cost you your job.

Legal Fallout

While many people think they’ll just get a slap on the wrist, this isn’t always the case. Because you could be violating copyright laws, there could be legal problems that go along with plagiarizing. While plagiarism isn’t a crime, copyright infringement is. With copyright infringement, a person can file a lawsuit against you if you made money off of that particular article or even photograph. The legal fallout will vary by the situation and the other person.

Stop the bad Habit

With plagiarism many people think they will get away with it since they haven’t been caught yet. This can lead to a dishonest and horrible cycle of getting credit for something that doesn’t belong to you.

If you’re looking to work in Journalism or are a working writer, you will have a very difficult time finding work once you have been caught plagiarizing. While it’s not a legal crime, in the journalism world it is a crime that many employers take very seriously.

In a perfect world, whenever someone did harm to another person, the aggressor would realize the error, apologize, and make recompense.

This is not a perfect world.

That’s why we have the legal system, so that finding justice when you are wronged is not in your own hands. But it can be challenging, even within the system.

Consider the hit-and-run. What if you’re on the side of the road and you get hit, then the other car burns rubber and disappears into the night? Unless you’re fortunate enough to have someone else get indignant, track the offender down and supply the license plate number to the police, sometimes it can feel like justice is just a nice idea.

Still, with most wrongs you likely have information to go on, which means you can make a case. But you need a lawyer to do so, whether you’re in need of an accident lawyer Michigan residents trust or a California expert in patent law.

The most important thing is that you pick the right lawyer for the job. There are many branches of law and there’s a type of lawyer for each. The laws vary from state to state and so you have to get even more specific. Fortunately, there are websites that will provide you with locals’ reviews of local lawyers for every conceivable specialty.

The key is to be patient and persistent—it may feel at times that justice is out of reach, but don’t give up. The law is on your side—reach out and take its hand.

Many college students know plagiarism is bad and have heard the term, but surprisingly they don’t fully understand what it means. While this might shock many people, a lot of teachers aren’t really talking about plagiarism because they assume students just know what it is and why they shouldn’t be doing it.

Teaching students about plagiarism and how to avoid it is important because most plagiarism happens unintentionally. By knowing this information students won’t have to worry about the effects of plagiarizing a homework assignment.

What is Plagiarism?

Many people will define plagiarism as stealing another person’s words. However, it’s a little bit more complicated than that. When you have an idea or a thought, it’s important to use a source. While the opinion is your own, you are getting your information somewhere. By citing sources, you can avoid plagiarism. When citing sources you don’t have to cite something that is common knowledge. We all know that Christmas is December 25th so you don’t need to say where you found that information.

How to Prevent Plagiarism

Preventing plagiarism isn’t as tricky as people might think. The key to avoiding plagiarism is quoting a source or paraphrasing. It’s important to be very careful with paraphrasing. Just because you switch a few words doesn’t make it paraphrasing. You have to use your own words to describe what the information is telling you.

Find more than one source. By using multiple websites and books, you’re far less likely to plagiarize. Take good notes, but don’t write out full sentences. This is how it all starts. Once you’re done with the research, put your notes to the side and begin writing. It’s better not to have information near by, because you might get tempted to refer back to those notes far too often, which can cause you to plagiarize.

There are many different ways to avoid plagiarism. The best advice is to use multiple sources and paraphrase properly. We all have our own thoughts and opinions, don’t we? So why go and steal someone else’s?
